Camden Challenge - Space

How can we use space better in Camden?

Camden Council

Thanks to all those who submitted, we are in the process of selecting ideas to work with on the day. Meanwhile, please do sign up on our Eventbrite page to join our teams on July 6th to be a part of helping the projects a reality!

Even in a borough as densely occupied as Camden, there is underused space: empty shops, land on housing estates, forgotten corners or buildings that are only used during the day.

Do you have an idea for a project that would unlock the potential of these and other spaces to create something meaningful for local people to use? The idea could relate one part of the borough, like your neighbourhood or estate, or the whole borough.

The Camden Challenge is looking for creative ideas for projects that take new approaches to using space in Camden better. The idea must be for a project you are prepared to work on with others to make happen, rather than just an idea that you think the council should do.

How it works:

If you have an idea, please submit it to the Challenge. We will then select a shortlist of the best ideas and invite their owners to bring them to the Camden Challenge Day on Saturday 6th July. During this day, people with the best ideas will work with Camden residents and businesses, supported by the skills of designers and more, to develop their ideas further.

At the end of the day, the teams will pitch their ideas to a panel of judges and the best teams with the best pitches that can demonstrate impact and sustainability will receive support over the summer months to move their great idea into a fully researched and designed project.

After this summer of support, the teams will pitch their project at a Dragon's Den in front of potential funders (there is no council funding for this) and investors in the early autumn.
